Poetry in Motion - Where the poets are...

POETRY IN MOTION

Poetry in Motion, a monthly Spoken Word event, was brought about by a need to continue and to perpetuate an African American tradition that encompasses the creative manipulation of language and dramatization to tell stories, pass on history, relate experiences and report pertinent news. It has since morphed into a platform by which local writers and performers can hone their talents and promote their works.

Spoken Word has its roots in the African American community. Lovers of words and those who know and understand their power have long used such methods to bring various issues to light. Whether those issues concern politics, race, religion, relationships, gender issues, the environment, love, or history; Poetry in Motion provides a stage and a microphone for the dramatic presentation and flow of words and spirit.

Our goal is provide a voice to the disenfranchised whereby those issues that plague this community can be brought to light for discussion and action. All artist/poets are welcome. LJAC does not believe in slams or passing judgment on the works of those who bravely bless the mic. Join LJAC every third Thursday of the month at 6:30p.m. Food and beverages served. Members are free, non-members $5.00 at the door.

LJAC Press Presents:

Fireside Chats: A Surrealist's View of the World by Frank S. O'Neal.

When:

February 27th, at 6:30 p.m. at Loves Jazz & Arts Center, Upstairs Main Gallery

Please come and support Love's Jazz & Arts Center 1st published work, Fireside Chats: A Surrealist's View of the World by Frank S. O'Neal. This is in keeping with LJAC's mission to support African American artists and artforms. It is difficult for writers of color to get published, even more so for poets. We are hoping for some success with this endeavor so that we may be able to offer this service to other up-and-coming writers.

Author, Frank S. O’Neal to read excerpts and  be on hand for signed copies.
