This area was once the anchor of a thriving commercial district for African Americans. The center is less than a block from the once famous Dreamland Ballroom. The facility is a 8000 square foot state of the art facility featuring the Preston Love gallery, a performing arts area, exhibition spaces, a digital media lab, and a gift shop along with classrooms and administration space.

Many sponsorship opportunities are available.

Loves Jazz & Arts Center Under construction in 2003

For over a decade there has been a group of dedicated Omahans who have came together and brainstormed about the need for Omaha to have a world class cultural arts center that could nurture and showcase artists of African decent and serve as a cultural hub for Omaha’s African American Community.

It was through the dedicated work of Omaha councilman Frank Brown that this dream was able to become a reality. Thanks also go to Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey for having the vision to see the value and importance of such a venture.

Loves Jazz and arts Center (LJAC) was incorporated as of April 21st 2003 and opened it doors to the public May 1st 2005

Since that time LJAC has obtained thousands of artifacts including; Paintings, prints, historical photographs, posters, books etc, all celebrating that uniquely American experience of black America. The museum also has a growing diverse array of material related to the history and culture of African Americans, including -art, ethnographic objects, archives, historic artifacts and texts.

Our most recent initiative is the creation of a digital archive documenting our collection and others. Through the power of digital imaging previously inaccessible information is being uncovered that helps tell the story of the African American Experience. LJAC began digitizing our collections in 2005. Digital imaging technology enables us to offer access to the information in the collections while at the same time safe guarding the originals for future generations.

At this facility, staff members work on creating digital images of photographs and documents from the LJAC's own collections, and others, for access, exhibit and publication use and to provide copies for researchers.

Since our inception LJAC has curated nine major exhibition and utilized wonderfully interactive exhibitions that are ripe with the best new technologies. LJAC remains a community institution dedicated to serving the cultural and educational needs of our community. Our research, curatorial and educational endeavours are committed to listening and responding to these needs, as well as the ever-increasing demands of art and cultural historians nationwide.

Former CIty Councilman Frank Brown

City Councilman Frank Brown was instrumental in securing city support and funding for the renovation of three buildings on the North- west corner of historic 24th & Lake street now called the Loves Jazz & Arts Center.

Out of a national bid an African American architect was selected his name was Charles McAfee of McAfee & Associates out of Dallas Texas.

After a complete renovation of the facility we were left with a truely beautiful state of the art facility that is a joy to behold for all who enter the facility today.
